Did you know? PartnerSourcer Scott Johnson is a twin.
This month, we’re sitting down with Scott Johnson, loss control specialist on the Sonic TSETA program, to learn about a connection that’s been there since day one. Scott is a fraternal twin. What is it like to navigate life with what he describes as a “built-in best friend”? Here’s what he had to say.
Q: Let’s start at the beginning. Who’s the "senior" twin in the family?
Scott: My sister, Courtney, holds that title. She’s older by exactly one minute and she never lets me forget it. I did manage to beat her at one milestone, though—I started walking first!
Q: You’re a boy/girl twin set. Do people still ask the classic twin question?
Scott: All the time. When we were kids in a double stroller, people would ask my parents if we were identical. Even today, I occasionally get asked that. My go-to answer is usually, “I sure hope not!”
Q: How would you describe Courtney and how you two compare?
Scott: She is incredibly kind, dependable, and sweet, the kind of person who is always there to listen. Personality-wise, she’s definitely more outgoing than I am. Courtney is also very intuitive and a natural artist who loves to paint. I tend to be a bit more of a deep processor with a strong background in reading and writing. We are two very different people, but we complement each other perfectly.
Q: Is "twin telepathy" a real thing, or just a movie myth?
Scott: I think it’s a real thing, though maybe not like you see in movies. It’s not necessarily reading each other's minds; it’s more of a deep intuition. You can pick up when something is "off" just by a change in their mannerisms or personality. It’s a connection that is just inherent and well-established.
Q: Any funny stories from your school days together?
Scott: When I transferred to the same school as Courtney in third grade, there was one kid who didn’t realize we were related. He started telling everyone behind our backs, “It’s so obvious that Scott likes Courtney!” His friends had to break the news to him: “Dumbo, they’re brother and sister... they’re twins!”
Q: We hear there is a third sibling in the family. Did you and Courtney help name her?
Scott: We tried! When our younger sister, Natalie, was born, Courtney wanted to name her Katrina (this was right before the hurricane). I was four years old at the time and I had a very specific vision….I wanted to name her "Football Guy Johnson." Luckily, our parents went a different direction.
Q: What is one thing you wish people knew about being a twin?
Scott: The best advice I can give is to acknowledge that twins are different people. We aren't the same person, and we really appreciate it when people recognize our individualities.
Q: How would you summarize your bond today?
Scott: It’s like having a companion and a best friend for life. Even if we don’t talk every single day, we depend on each other. It’s a connection that no one else can truly understand.
